We receive a lot of questions from tourists regarding RTC reduced bus fares in Las Vegas. Below are the things you need to know, and the steps required to obtain a Reduced Fare ID card.
The RTC Las Vegas offer reduced fares to youth (6-17), students (K-12), senior citizens (60 and over), Veterans (locals only), person with disabilities, Medicare eligible persons, customers with valid transit ID's from another transit agency and Mobility Trained customers. Kids 5 and under ride free.
In order to purchase an RTC reduced fare from a ticket vending machine or the rideRTC transit app, you must first obtain a Reduced Fare, Mobility Trained or Veterans identification card (ID) from the RTC in person.
The RTC reduced fare ID card can only be obtained by visiting the location below:
Bonneville Transit Center, at 101 E. Bonneville Ave., (located on the southwest corner of Casino Center Blvd at Bonneville Ave.) Open 7 days a week from 7:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
You must bring an approved form of identification (listed below) in order to prove eligibility for a reduced fare.
To prove eligibility for RTC Reduced fares, the following forms of identification will be required at the Bonneville Transit Center. Note: Reduced Fare ID cards can only be obtained at the Bonneville Transit Center (BTC).
Medicare Card Holders: Medicare card and a valid driver's license or non-driver photo ID card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles;
Senior citizens (60+ years): A valid driver's license or non-driver photo ID card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles;
Local Veterans: Veterans ID Card from the Veterans Administration (VA) or DC Papers (DD214) plus a Valid Nevada ID i.e. Nevada Driver's License or state issued ID card. (Only local veterans residing in Clark County with valid Nevada ID are eligible)
Youths (6-17 years) & Students (K-12): Birth certificate, valid driver's license or non-driver photo ID card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Youth / students (K-12) may present a current Student ID card at the time of boarding.
Persons with disabilities: Medicare card or a signed letter (original document only) from a physician less than three months old stating the individual is disabled and the time period of the disability accompanied by a valid driver's license or non-driver photo ID card issued the by the Department of Motor Vehicles, and a valid reduced-fare eligibility card from another transit system.
RTC mobility trained customers.
Persons with valid Reduced Fare I.D. from other agencies.
Upon providing proof of eligibility at the RTC Bonneville Transit Center (BTC), you will be issued the proper RTC Reduced Fare I.D. card.
A valid driver’s license or non-driver photo I.D. issued by the DMV and one (1) of the following:
Valid Clark County School District I.D. card
Valid RTC Reduced Fare I.D. card
Valid RTC Mobility Trained I.D. card
Valid Transit I.D. from another transit agency
Valid DMV I.D. showing veteran status
The process of buying a Reduced Fare Pass with the rideRTC app on your phone is easy. Reduced fares are available for purchase with the rideRTC app, Lyft, Transit or Uber app.
1 Download the app and set up an account
2 Click on the “Profile” button under the “Utilities” menu in the upper right-hand corner
3 Next, click on the “My Discounts” button
4 Enter a Reduced Pass ID number, which can be found on your Reduced Fare ID card.
5 If you do not have a Reduced Fare ID card, you will need to apply for one. (See the section above. "Applying for RTC Reduced Fare").
Customers using their RTC-issued Reduced Fare I.D., Veterans I.D. or Mobility Trained I.D to ride RTC fixed route will be asked to tap the card on the electronic validator, which is located on the pole right inside the front door of the bus.
There is now a three steps process customers with Reduced Fare I.D. must follow when boarding.
1 Show the bus driver your RTC-issued I.D. card to prove eligibility for the reduced fare rate.
2 Swipe your pass to pay fare or insert money in to the farebox.
3 Tap your RTC-issued I.D. card on the electronic validator.
If your I.D. card is linked to your account on the rideRTC app, bypass Step 1 (showing the bus driver your I.D.) Instead, just scan your phone on the validator to pay the fare.
Did you know...
If you are a visitor to Las Vegas and have a valid reduced-fare eligibility card from another transit system, simply present it to the bus driver at the time of boarding in order to pay reduced fare.
